Dashuigou Fm
Type Locality and Naming
The type section is located at Dashuigou, Puxi area, Zhushan County, Hubei Province. It was named by the Hubei Regional Geological Survey Party in 1975, and was officially cited by the Bureau of Geology and Mineral Resources of Hubei Province in 1990.
Lithology and Thickness
Organic-rich Shale and Chert. Composed of two lithologic members. Lower member consists mainly of black thin-bedded carbonaceous and siliceous rocks, intercalated with carbonaceous shale and with its base being intercalated with lenticular limestone. Upper member consists chiefly of black carbonaceous and siliceous shale, intercalated with thin-bedded carbon-bearing siliceous rocks. The whole suite of rock series is abundant in organic (carbonaceous) and pyrite concretions. The maximum thickness of the formation is over 120 m, and is reducing westerly towards the area of Lutao Gorge to become as thinner as 50 m.
Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
Conformable contact with the underlying Wawuwan Fm
Upper contact
Disconformable contact with the overlying Daye Fm of the Lower Triassic Series.
Regional extent
Distributed in the area of Zhuxi-Fangxian.

Fossils
Lower part yields Ammonoids such as Shouchangoceras and Altudoceras. Upper part yields Ammonoids such as Anderssonoceras.
